"The Gnostics, the Knowing Ones as
they are called, among other things, are worshippers of Satan. Their teachings are didaskalias daimonion,
things taught by demons."
Father John, raised in northern Italy under
Mussolini, became a Jesuit at the age of 18 and traveled the world performing missionary work for
the poor. In 1982 in El Salvador, his ruthlessness in an encounter with a death squad targeting
a hospital run by Catholic nuns causes a minor scandal and major debate within the Church hierarchy
about the use of violence in defending missionary work. His actions catch the attention of certain
superiors at the Vatican, who initiate him into the Christiani
Soldati, or Christian Soldiers, a secret organization within
the Society of Jesus formed during the Middle Ages to covertly fight the Illuminati. He advances
quickly in the organization and just 11 years later, at the age of 58, becomes one of the Black
Popes, a leader of the Christiani Soldati, and has sworn to destroy the Church's ancient
enemy, the Illuminati. He is continuously followed by his henchmen Ireneaus and Hippolytus, named
after early Christian leaders who denounced Gnosticism in their writings.
